The Gender, Globalization & Empire Faculty Study Group is an interdisciplinary reading and research/ teaching support group for faculty whose publications and/or courses address empire or postcolonial studies and issues of gender. The focus of our meetings will be to read and discuss each other’s work, articles or books of interest, to confer about pedagogical issues related to teaching these subjects, and to collaborate on research and teaching projects. The group will integrate with the Critical Gender Studies Initiative just approved by the Office of Research Initiatives. We are also developing a proposal for an undergraduate Core pathway dedicated to our subject, and will support empire-related courses in the following undergraduate Pathways:
  • Gender, Sexuality & the Body (Linda Garber, facilitator)

  • Human Rights pathway is Human Rights in a Global World (Catherine Montfort, facilitator)

  • Politics & Religion (Tom Turley, facilitator)
