Research Bibliography
Your bibliography will be determined by the passage and method you
choose. Initial suggestions for background reading are provided in the introductions to each exegetical method, available from the Exegesis tabs above and to the left. But once you choose a particular passage, you will need to find more focused resources rather quickly.
There
are three extremely helpful resources available in the library that
will save you a lot of time and energy. These are the online
ATLA Religion Index, which indexes
all religion periodicals, and the scripture-focused Old Testament
Abstracts and New Testament Abstracts. The abstracts
not only provide bibliographic information, as the database does,
but also summarize all articles published in the field, so that you
can determine immediately whether the article is relevant for your
work. As you scan the abstracts on your passage, you begin
to get a sense of the discussions around your pericope, and this is
invaluable in the early stages of research when you are still shaping your questions. All three of these resources and many others are described in the Scripture Tools resource, available from a tab at the top of this page.
